Data Loss Prevention Tips When Migrating to the Cloud

More companies are choosing to transition certain IT operations to the cloud, causing a widespread concern toward data loss prevention practices, especially during the sensitive migration phases. Refined and proven data protection methods are imperative during the transition, InformationWeek reports.

According to the website, organizations should be paying close attention to the services of the chosen cloud-service vendor, asking many questions before, after and throughout the migration process. Many vendors, the source asserts, are flexible and will tailor processes to fit the needs of the customer.

Organizations with higher regulatory compliance requirements, as well as those that manage highly sensitive data, may benefit from choosing a cloud-service provider that may be more expensive, but offers a more proven product, the website notes.

Additionally, the website stresses the importance of having a fallback contingency plan in the event that the working relationship with the vendor does not work out. This could include additional security measures implemented by internal IT departments during the migration process.

Data loss prevention is a growing concern in the public and private conscious, as high profile hacks have frequented major media outlets over the past few years. According to the Identity Theft Resource Center, 131 data breaches in the business sector have led to more than 3.6 million exposed sensitive records since January 1.
