Report: MSPs Turning to Data Encryption
| Topic : Data Loss Prevention, Email Security
A number of managed service providers have opted to boost data security with greater encryption to avoid data breaches and other issues that could cause issues with HIPAA compliance, according to a recent MSPMentor.net report.
As email archiving becomes both mandated by various federal regulations and more widely used to store sensitive correspondence, encrypting these messages to protect them from unauthorized parties is critical. Aside from the loss of these files, which warrants massive fines already, breaches can also occur simply by anyone outside the organization seeing the information. Encrypting the files prevents this additional issue.
The report found more vendors of email security suites and solutions are using encryption to make their products more secure and appealing to companies subject to various regulations.
For SaaS vendors, encryption is vitally important to assuage the often misguided fears companies have about storing data in the cloud.
According to cloud computing expert David Linthicum, more companies have found greater and faster return on investment when adopting SaaS than those using on-premises software deployments.
