SaaS solutions critical for enterprise email security

As database security becomes a global concern, more enterprises will turn to software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions for more effective virus protection.

Recent research from Frost & Sullivan revealed that the Latin American Managed Security Services Markets earned over $331.9 million last year, and the firm expects revenues to reach $646.2 million by 2017. Further predictions indicated that as enterprises become cloud and mobile-dependent, IT will seek advanced technologies in addition to firewalls, virtual private network (VPN), anti-virus, anti-spam, network assessment and penetration testing. Bruno Tasco, an analyst for the firm, commented on this trend.

"Web applications and mobile devices have become the vehicle of choice for attacks, making it easier for security to be compromised and compelling companies to outsource their security services to efficient third party service providers," he said.

In an interview with Smart Business, Alex Dresberg, sales and marketing director at Ohio.net, agreed that a rise in enterprise spam requires heightened attention to security software. He asserted that blocking spam with the most up-to-date filtering technologies is critical to preventing detrimental system infections. Preventing viruses from even approaching the network ensures that resources aren't at all affected, and additionally, bandwidth volume isn't wasted by spam. He explained that running all emails through an off-site service allows a service provider to manage virus and spam threats, which reduces security expenditures and increases likelihood of detection. With this method, the service provider filters out any inbound or outbound emails that could potentially threaten data protection. Moreover, these tools can enhance prevention by monitoring trends in where these threats originate from to block those sources.

Enterprises that neglect email security pose a risk to the protection of business-critical information as well as the company reputation. By leveraging the remote support of an SaaS solution, firms can ensure heightened awareness of potential virus risks and eliminate them before the server is threatened.
