David Crocker

David Crocker brings a thorough understanding of Internet infrastructure and messaging techniques to the Proofpoint leadership team. Mr. Crocker has been authoring Internet standards for thirty years, covering Internet mail, instant messaging, facsimile, and EDI. He has authored more than 45 IETF Requests For Comments, including RFC 822 (Standard for the Format of ARPA Internet Text Messages), which define the format of current Internet email messages. Mr. Crocker worked in the ARPA network research community during the 1970s, and subsequently led product development efforts at MCI and various Silicon Valley companies. For his work on email, Mr. Crocker is a co-recipient of the 2004 IEEE Internet Award.

Phillip Hallam-Baker

Phillip Hallam-Baker is an expert in security related to both inside and outside messaging. He is Principal Scientist and Web Services Security Architect for VeriSign, Inc. He is responsible for driving and delivering key security specifications and technologies through industry-recognized standards bodies and other organizations. Mr. Hallam-Baker has a degree in Electronic Engineering from Southampton University and a Doctorate in Computer Science from the Nuclear Physics Department at Oxford University. He was appointed a Post Doctoral Research Associate at DESY in 1992 and CERN Fellow in 1993. He is currently a researcher at the World Wide Web Consortium at MIT.

Tim Howes, Ph.D.

Tim Howes co-invented the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), the Internet standard for directories used by a number of directory services including those of Novell, Microsoft, and IBM. Mr. Howes is an expert not only in LDAP technology and complex computing on low cost distributed systems, but also regarding ways in which message flows and policies can map against organizational groups and hierarchies. As CTO and EVP of Development at Opsware, Inc. (formerly Loudcloud), Mr. Howes is responsible for product development and strategy. Prior to co-founding Opsware, Mr. Howes was Vice President of Technology for America Online, Inc., where he worked on technology strategy, acquisitions and investments. Before his work at AOL, he was Chief Technology Officer of Netscape's Server Products division and was Chief Architect of several Netscape server products. Before joining Netscape, Mr. Howes was a researcher and National Science Foundation Project Director at the University of Michigan. Mr. Howes has authored or co-authored dozens of IETF Requests For Comments, including RFC 1777 (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol).

Dan Jurafsky, Ph.D.

Dan Jurafsky area of expertise lies in combining linguistic analysis with probabilistic theories. Jurafsky is an Associate Professor in the Stanford University Department of Linguistics. His research focuses on integrating sophisticated linguistic knowledge (phonology, syntax, semantics, and discourse) with probabilistic, evidential, and information-theoretic algorithms. Mr. Jurafshy's work in cognitive modeling includes one of the first probabilistic models for human syntactic parsing, and recent work on probabilistic models of human pronunciation and lexical production.

Hongyuan Zha, Ph.D.

Hongyuan Zha is an expert in advanced machine learning theories and practical applications. Mr. Zha currently serves as Associate Professor at The Pennsylvania State University's Department of Computer Science and Engineering. As a member of the Scientific Computing Group, Mr. Zha focuses on computing with applications in data mining, machine learning, pattern recognition, and information retrieval.

Chengxiang Zhai, Ph.D.

ChengXiang Zhai is an expert in the application of statistical language models to the management of textual information. Mr. Zhai is an Assistant Professor at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Department of Computer Science. As a member of the Database and Information Sciences Group, Mr. Zhai focuses on information retrieval, natural language processing, and bioinformatics.
