Smart Identifiers dramatically reduce the number of false positives relative to commonly used regular expressions. Depending on the specific Smart Identifier, a variety of checks are performed, increasing the accuracy of the data detection. For example, the Smart Identifier for credit card numbers performs the Lunh Algorithm check, which validates the checksum. Proofpoint Enterprise Privacy can be configured to monitor a specific network folder for sensitive enterprise documents. Documents within the folder are then fingerprinted. Both partial and full fingerprint matches can be detected, regardless of whether the data resides in the original file format or not.
