Gartner Report: Taking a Pragmatic Approach to Infrastructure Security for Midsize Enterprises

MIDSIZE ENTERPRISES FACE UNIQUE SECURITY CHALLENGES – AND ATTACKERS KNOW IT.

Surveys of Gartner clients have shown that midsize enterprises face two main security management challenges: lack of skilled personnel, and budget constraints. These challenges, coupled with rapid digital transformation, make midsize enterprises the easiest target for attackers using phishing, ransomware, and malware to disrupt business-critical functions.

So how can IT and security leaders combat advanced security threats?

Gartner recommends that organizations with limited resources focus their efforts on treating the most common threats first. Specific recommendations include:

    • Prioritize security hygiene to mitigate most threats and focus on functions such as vulnerability management
    • Leverage automation to create repeatable processes and avoid unnecessary manual operation
    • Consider a cloud-based secure email gateway (SEG) to provide filtering and protection for email – the most common channel of malware infection

    Connect with Confidence

New channels of customer engagement and streamlining operations require IT teams to rely on infrastructure that they don’t manage or own. New digital channels also mean there are new security and compliance risks, including:

    • Attackers that spoof your domain outside of your email gateway
    • Impostors on social media that hijack customer communications
    • Fraudsters using look-alike domains to credential phish your clients
    • Counterfeit mobile apps stealing company data

Finally, Office 365 and G-Suite are great productivity and collaboration enhancers. But they were not built to address your enterprise security and compliance requirements.
