Today, I am thrilled to welcome more than 700 members of the Hornetsecurity team to Proofpoint. With the close of our acquisition, Hornetsecurity becomes our dedicated MSP Platform business unit focused on delivering a full software platform for Microsoft 365 security to managed service providers (MSPs) that serve and protect small- to mid-size businesses.
This is an important milestone in our journey because it extends our human and agent-centric security platform beyond large enterprises to organisations of every size.
Bringing Proven MSP Software Platform and European Strength to the World
What stands out about Hornetsecurity is their deep expertise in serving MSPs worldwide through their industry-leading Microsoft 365 cybersecurity software platform. Over time, they have built a strong business and earned the trust of MSPs with a partner-first model that delivers powerful, easy-to-manage protection. Today, Hornetsecurity supports more than 125,000 organisations through over 12,000 MSPs and partners globally, with a particularly strong footprint across Europe.
Their flagship software platform, 365 Total Protection, is a comprehensive, cloud-native solution that gives MSPs a clean, integrated way to secure Microsoft 365 environments. It complements Proofpoint’s enterprise-grade solution, and together we can now protect people, data, and AI agents for every customer, across enterprises and small businesses. We will bring these strengths to more markets across our global footprint, including the United States.
Meeting the Moment: AI Is Reshaping the Threat Landscape
The timing of this integration could not be more important. AI is transforming how attacks are created and deployed, increasing both the volume and precision of threats. Attackers now target SMBs with the same sophistication once aimed almost exclusively at large enterprises. Automated reconnaissance, highly tailored lures, and AI-driven attack chains are overwhelming organisations that often have no security team at all.
At the same time, SMBs are among the earliest adopters of new AI capabilities, which expands their risk surface as they begin using AI assistants and AI agents inside their workspace.
All of this has created a clear need: SMBs must have the best possible cybersecurity for their Microsoft 365 and AI toolset. They need the same level of defence trusted by global enterprises, delivered through the MSP partners they already rely on.

The team brings deep expertise, a proven operating model, and a strong partner community. I look forward to working closely with them as we accelerate value for customers and partners around the world.
For existing Hornetsecurity partners and customers, service continuity remains paramount and fully intact, now supported by Proofpoint’s global resources, research, and threat intelligence.
For our Proofpoint Essentials partners and customers, nothing changes today. We will continue to operate the Essentials product line and, in the near future, offer a simple upgrade path to the Hornetsecurity 365 Total Protection platform. Our goal is to maintain full continuity while giving our Essentials customers and partners access to even stronger protection when they are ready to benefit from it.
