The Latest in Phishing: November 20, 2014
We’ve been keeping our ears to the ground. Here are some of the latest phishing attacks reported from around the web:
- Facebook is being used as a phishing lure…again. A message posing as a formal notification targets login credentials by asking Facebook users to perform a one-time security check.
- Tis the season to go phishing! Attacks mimicking Amazon and eBay receipts and airline flight confirmations are on the uptick, as are fake UPS, FedEx, and USPS delivery notifications.
- Scammers masquerading as do-gooders are up to no good. Approximately 700,000 emails sent in November solicited donations to a phony Ebola fundraising campaign on Indiegogo. Be sure to investigate before you donate!
- A recent advisory from the Research and Education Networking Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC) alerted higher education institutions to sophisticated phishing attacks that lure faculty and staff into revealing payroll and insurance policy information.
- A fake C93 virus scare targets Windows Outlook users and attempts to obtain login credentials.
