The AI Security Challenge Is Growing

Artificial intelligence is reshaping cybersecurity.

For defenders, AI creates new opportunities to improve threat detection, investigation, and response. For attackers, it creates new ways to scale social engineering, accelerate attacks, and exploit vulnerabilities across increasingly connected environments.

Our recent 2026 AI and Human Risk Landscape report found that half of organizations have already experienced a confirmed or suspected AI-related security incident. At the same time, 87% have deployed AI assistants beyond the pilot stage, while more than half are not fully confident their existing AI security controls would detect a compromised AI system.

Security teams need capabilities that help them keep pace.

Advancing AI for Cyber Defense

That's why Proofpoint has been selected to join the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, which provides vetted cybersecurity organizations with governed access to frontier AI capabilities. Our participation coincides with the introduction of GPT-5.5, OpenAI's latest frontier model, creating new opportunities to evaluate advanced AI capabilities for defensive security use cases.

The quality of AI systems supporting security workflows is becoming an increasingly important factor in how effectively organizations can detect, investigate, and respond to threats. As part of Daybreak, Proofpoint will collaborate with OpenAI to apply advanced AI capabilities across trusted defensive security use cases and workflows.

This includes opportunities to help security teams accelerate threat investigations, enrich and prioritize alerts, improve intelligence analysis, streamline incident response workflows, and increase analyst productivity. These capabilities have the potential to help organizations scale defensive operations while reducing the burden on already stretched security teams.

Proofpoint is also continuing to expand Satori, its agentic AI solutions, which are designed to help defenders boost scale and agility, so no alerts are missed and routine tedious tasks, like alert triage, are performed at machine speed. Proofpoint currently leverages OpenAI models within Satori and anticipates that GPT-5.5 may unlock additional capabilities.

Building Trust Into AI-Powered Security

For Proofpoint, the value of this collaboration extends beyond access to advanced AI models. Success depends on integrating those capabilities into security workflows with the governance, visibility, and safeguards enterprises require.

A key component of the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program is its focus on responsible deployment. Proofpoint and OpenAI share a commitment to advancing industry-leading approaches to AI governance, monitoring, safety controls, and abuse prevention as these technologies become more deeply embedded in security operations.

As AI continues to transform cybersecurity, organizations will increasingly rely on trusted technology providers to help operationalize these capabilities safely and effectively.

Proofpoint's participation in Daybreak represents an important step in that effort, combining advanced AI innovation with proven human- and agent-centric security expertise to help defenders stay ahead of evolving threats.
