Gary Steele

Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board

Gary Steele is founding CEO of Proofpoint. With more than 30 years of technology industry experience, he directs a global workforce of 3,300+ employees to protect people, data and brands from advanced threats and compliance risks. An established cybersecurity thought leader, Mr. Steele’s expertise has been featured on CNBC, Forbes, Fortune, Fox Business, Investor’s Business Daily, MarketWatch, and the Wall Street Journal. He also serves on the board of directors for Malwarebytes, Synack, Vonage, and Upwork. Prior to Proofpoint, Mr. Steele held the position of CEO of Portera and leadership roles with Sybase, Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard. He earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Washington State University.

Paul Auvil

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Auvil brings more than 20 years of experience in finance, technology and corporate leadership to Proofpoint. Prior to joining Proofpoint, Mr. Auvil spent six months with Benchmark Capital as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence, where he evaluated investments and advised portfolio companies. Prior to Benchmark, he spent four years serving as the CFO at virtualization leader VMWare, where he played an important role in helping the company to evolve from a promising start-up to one of the fastest growing companies in the history of the software industry. Previously, he served as the CFO for Vitria Technology, Inc. In that role, he executed both initial and secondary public offerings and led Vitria's acquisition of XML Solutions, Inc. Before joining Vitria, he held various executive positions at VLSI Technology, including vice president of the Internet and Secure Products Division. Mr. Auvil holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Dartmouth College, and a Master of Management degree from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. In addition to a wealth of business experience, Mr. Auvil also holds patents in digital video compression in Japan, and one patent in the U.S. for a high speed, PCI compatible on-chip data bus.

Lyn Campbell

EVP, Customer Success and Information Technology

Lyn Campbell is the EVP of Customer Success and IT for Proofpoint, expanding her current role as the leader of Global Operations. Her organization manages the corporate and production cloud infrastructures that power the Proofpoint business, along with the Customer Success teams that deliver support and training across the globe. She brings more than 25 years of experience to her role. Prior to joining Proofpoint, Ms. Campbell led the international media production engineering team for Yahoo! Media, which served hundreds of millions of global customers. Known for her success with SaaS companies, her experience also includes directing teams at Sybase, WebEx, and Intraware (now Flexera software). Ms. Campbell earned a B.A. in English from the University of California, Berkeley.

Marcel DePaolis

Chief Technical Officer

Before coming to Proofpoint, Mr. DePaolis was the vice president of Engineering, Applications, and Operations at Webraska (formerly AirFlash, Inc.), the leading provider of location-based software and solutions, including services targeted at wireless mobile users and geospatial mapping and routing engines. Prior to AirFlash, Mr. DePaolis was with Netscape Communications/AOL, where he was technical director of Messaging and Collaboration for iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, a Sun/Netscape alliance. Previously, Mr. DePaolis held senior architect and engineering management positions at ISOCOR; the leading supplier of Internet messaging, meta-directory software solutions, and at Quarterdeck Office Systems; developing some of the earliest consumer Internet browsers and utilities. Earlier in his career, Mr. DePaolis co-founded and held the position of CEO of Pittsburgh Powercomputing Corporation, a company that specialized in fast X Window System servers and other graphics software. Mr. DePaolis holds a triple major B.S. degree in electrical, computer, and biomedical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Sharyl Givens

SVP, Human Resources

Sharyl Givens brings more than 15 years of experience with technology startups and public companies to her role as senior vice president of Human Resources for Proofpoint. She leads a team of HR professionals, who are responsible for driving global business growth through strategic human resource programs. Prior to joining Proofpoint in 2011, Sharyl held roles at such companies as Rambus and SanDisk; where she was responsible for HR programs to enable the transition of the company as it grew to over $1B in revenue worldwide. She was also in Human Resources at Loudcloud/Opsware and Calico Commerce where she held roles readying the organizations for growth and their eventual initial public offerings. Sharyl holds a B.S. from Menlo College.

Jason Hurst

SVP, Corporate Development

Jason Hurst is SVP of Corporate Development at Proofpoint. Previously, Mr. Hurst served as VP, Head of Corporate Development for Pivotal, where he was responsible for strategic initiatives and complex projects, including M&A and investments. Mr. Hurst also led M&A at VMware, and helped to navigate the process of establishing Pivotal. He also worked at Citi/Salomon Smith Barney as a technology investment banker for nearly a decade. In that role, he advised on and executed hundreds of client projects and deals. Mr. Hurst holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Japanese from BYU. He also holds an MBA with honors from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Ryan Kalember

EVP, Cybersecurity Strategy

With almost 20 years of experience in the information security industry, Mr. Kalember currently leads cybersecurity strategy for Proofpoint and is a sought-out expert for leadership and commentary on breaches and best practices. His global team of security experts ensures that Proofpoint’s customers have consistent insight into the attacks that target their people.

Mr. Kalember joined Proofpoint from WatchDox where he served as both chief product officer and CMO, leading the development of pioneering data-centric security solutions through to the company’s acquisition. Previously, Ryan ran solutions across HP’s portfolio of security products, was director of product strategy at ArcSight, and held a variety of positions at VeriSign, including EMEA regional manager and senior product manager. Early in his career, Ryan was a security practitioner, helping build many leading security organizations and security operations centers (SOCs) around the world. He received his bachelor's degree from Stanford University, where he studied fault tolerance, cryptography, and authentication algorithms.

David Knight

EVP and GM, Security Products

David Knight leads Proofpoint's Threat Systems Products Group. He brings a wealth of large enterprise SaaS experience to Proofpoint, having previously served as CTO of Cisco's Collaboration Software Group, where he was responsible for product and technical vision and strategy, product management and user experience. Mr. Knight was previously vice president of product management for leading cloud-based conferencing and collaboration vendor WebEx Communications, where he played a central role in the company's rapid growth and eventual $3.2 billion acquisition by Cisco. Earlier he was vice president of marketing and product management for SaaS pioneer Portera Systems and an entrepreneur in residence at Institutional Venture Partners. Mr. Knight has also held management positions at Sybase and Oracle. He holds an M.S. in industrial administration and a B.S. in information systems and industrial management from Carnegie Mellon University.

Darren Lee

EVP/GM, Compliance and Digital Risk Business Unit

Mr. Lee is responsible for Proofpoint’s Compliance and Digital Risk Business Unit and is Proofpoint’s executive owner for our global Financial Services segment and Proofpoint’s Machine Learning investments. Under Mr. Lee’s leadership, Proofpoint has dramatically grown its presence in Financial Services and the Compliance segment by ongoing investment in a portfolio of products including Archiving, Supervision, eDiscovery, Digital Risk, and Machine Learning.

Before joining Proofpoint, Mr. Lee served as the Founder and CEO of NextPage, a leading provider of Information Governance solutions. Having founded multiple startup companies, Mr. Lee has vast experience in defining markets, creating products, executing acquisitions, and driving revenue to build viable businesses. Mr. Lee holds a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from BYU.

Alan LeFort

SVP and GM, Security Awareness Training Products

Alan LeFort is a sought-after evangelist and advocate of cybersecurity. He’s known for his ability to synthesize and simplify the complex using humor and storytelling. This passion for simplicity has led him to cultivate product organizations centered around empathy, design thinking and innovation. Mr. LeFort has held strategy and product leadership roles at security companies in the US, Europe and Canada. His experiences span startups to publicly traded companies across consumer and enterprise. Prior to joining Proofpoint, Alan held senior roles at McAfee, HyTrust, AVG, Telus, Intellitactics, and AT&T Canada. Mr. LeFort holds an MBA from the University of Toronto and a BBA in Finance from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX.

Mike McKee

EVP and GM, Insider Threat Management

Mike McKee is responsible for Insider Threat Management at Proofpoint. Part of the ObserveIT acquisition, Mr. McKee brings more than 20 years of cross-functional, global experience in technology to Proofpoint. Prior to joining Proofpoint, Mr. McKee was the CEO of ObserveIT. His previous roles include leading award-winning global services and customer success organizations at Rapid7, Senior VP of CAD Operations and Strategy at PTC, and CFO at HighWired.com. He also held analyst roles at Broadview Associates, McKinsey & Company, and Goldman Sachs. Mike played professional hockey as a defenseman for the Quebec Nordiques. He graduated cum laude from Princeton University and received an MBA, with honors, from Harvard Business School.

Blake P. Sallé

Chief Revenue Officer

Blake P. Sallé is the Chief Revenue Officer at Proofpoint. Mr. Sallé joined Proofpoint in 2018, and previous to this role, he held the position of EVP, Worldwide Sales. Before that, he led the Americas sales organization. Before joining Proofpoint, Mr. Sallé served as President of Kony, the leading provider of enterprise mobility solutions. He was responsible for all go-to-market functions and customer operations globally. During his career, Mr. Sallé has held key leadership positions across Worldwide Sales, Channels, Customer Success, Strategy, and Field Operations in five different capacities, ranging from start-up to scale-out. He has worked for some of the most recognized and innovative organizations in technology and healthcare. These organizations include Cisco, VCE, VMware, EMC, Johnson & Johnson, CSC, and an Andreessen Horowitz backed start-up acquired by RSA. Mr. Sallé holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

Bhagwat Swaroop

EVP, Industry Solutions and Business Development

Bhagwat Swaroop leads Proofpoint’s Industry Solutions and Business development group. He is the executive owner responsible for driving company-wide GTM strategy and execution for all industry verticals. He leads the global alliances team responsible for driving strategic ecosystem partnerships and technical integrations. He leads the sales teams focused on driving revenue growth through Global System Integrators, Manager Service Providers and OEMs. Prior to this role, Mr. Swaroop served as the EVP and GM of Email Security Business Unit, where he was responsible for driving innovation and market adoption for the advanced email security portfolio – including secure email gateway, targeted attack protection, information protection and email fraud protection solutions to protect organizations worldwide. With more than 20 years of leadership success during tenures with Intel, McKinsey & Company, NetApp and Symantec, Mr. Swaroop excels in strategy, product development, go-to-market excellence and building high performance teams. Prior to joining Proofpoint, Mr. Swaroop served as vice president of Global Solutions, Product Management and Product Marketing for Enterprise Security at Symantec. Previously Mr. Swaroop was Vice President & head of Corporate, Product and Services strategy at Symantec. He is a seasoned strategic leader and brings a deep understanding of the enterprise security landscape, technology ecosystem and cloud-driven business models to his role. Mr. Swaroop holds multiple degrees including a B.E. in instrumentation and control from Delhi Institute of Technology, a M.S. in electrical engineering from Arizona State University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Ashan Willy

EVP and GM, Security Products and Services

Ashan Willy leads Product Management, Engineering and Threat Research for the Proofpoint Security Products and Services Group. Mr. Willy brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in engineering, product management, worldwide strategy and planning in global markets to his role. Before that, he led Global Systems Engineering, Customer Success and Renewals for Proofpoint. Prior to Proofpoint, he led teams at Webex, Juniper, Polycom and Cisco. Mr. Willy holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Pepperdine University in California and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. He also holds a CCIE, among other industry designations.

Michael Yang

VP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

Michael Yang is responsible for Proofpoint's worldwide legal affairs including licensing, intellectual property protection, compliance and corporate governance. Mr. Yang brings to Proofpoint more than 15 years of international business and legal experience at both public and privately-held companies. Prior to joining Proofpoint, Mr. Yang developed and led the corporate legal function and later the products and technology group as Associate General Counsel and Assistant Secretary of VMware, Inc., as that company grew from $200 million to over $2 billion in annual revenues. Mr. Yang has also held executive and senior management roles as an attorney for Medialive International and Openwave (as well as its predecessor, Software.com, where he contributed to that company's successful IPO and subsequent merger with Phone.com). He began his practice as an intellectual property attorney in the Los Angeles offices of Baker Hostetler. He holds an A.B. in government from Cornell University and a J.D. from the UCLA School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in the State of California.

Dana Evan

Venture Partner, Icon Ventures, Former CFO and Executive Vice President, VeriSign, Inc

Dana Evan has served as a director since June 2008. Since July 2007, Ms. Evan has invested in and served on the boards of directors of companies in the internet, technology and media sectors. From May 1996 until July 2007, Ms. Evan served as Chief Financial Officer of VeriSign, Inc., a provider of intelligent infrastructure services for the internet and telecommunications networks. Ms. Evan currently serves on the boards of directors of Box, a leading enterprise content management platform provider, and a number of privately held companies including SurveyMonkey and FarFetch. Ms. Evan also served on the board of Fusion-IO from February 2011 until July 2014, which was acquired by SanDisk by August 2014, on the board of Everyday Health, Inc., a provider of digital health and wellness solutions, which was acquired by Ziff Davis in December 2016 and on the board of Criteo S.A. from March 2013 until July 2017. Ms. Evan previously served on the board of directors of Omniture, Inc., an online marketing and web analytics company, until it was acquired by Adobe Systems Incorporated in October 2009. Ms. Evan holds a B.S. in Commerce from Santa Clara University and is a certified public accountant (inactive).

The board of directors determined that Ms. Evan possesses specific attributes that qualify her to serve as a member of our board of directors, including broad expertise in operations, strategy, accounting, financial management and investor relations at both publicly and privately held technology, media and Internet companies.

In 2019, Ms. Evan received the Director of the Year award from the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD).

Jonathan Feiber

General Partner, Mohr Davidow Ventures

Jonathan Feiber has served as a director since 2002. Mr. Feiber is a general partner at Mohr Davidow Ventures, a venture capital firm, which he joined in 1992. As a general partner at Mohr Davidow Ventures, Mr. Feiber serves on the board of directors of a number of privately held companies. Prior to joining Mohr Davidow Ventures, Mr. Feiber worked in various managerial positions at Sun Microsystems, a computer software and information technology company.

Mr. Feiber holds a B.A. degree from the University of Colorado in distributed studies across computer science, math and astrophysics. The board of directors determined that Mr. Feiber should serve as a director based on his significant experience in the venture capital industry analyzing, investing in and serving on the boards of directors of other technology companies, his significant management, software engineering and product development experience.

Kristen Gil

Business Operations & Strategy, Google

Kristen Gil, Vice President, Business Operations & Strategy, Google Kristen Gil is the Business Finance Officer for Google’s Research and Health product areas. She also leads the Business Operations and Strategy team across Google driving high-impact strategy and operations work such as user growth, product strategy, and monetization for both new and mature products. In addition, for several years, Gil led the Women@Google group, a global network of thousands of Google employees committed to connecting, developing and retaining female talent. Early in her career, Gil was General Manager of a division at Marketron International, helping to turn around the software company and improve financial performance. Later, she helped in the process to sell the company. She was also a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in San Francisco where she worked across many industries including technology, financial services, and manufacturing. Gil holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research from Cornell University. The board of directors determined that Ms. Gil should serve as a director based on her operational and strategic experience that will contribute to Proofpoint’s long term scale.

Kevin Harvey

Founder and General Partner, Benchmark Capital

Kevin Harvey has served as a director since 2002. Mr. Harvey is a founder and general partner of Benchmark Capital, which he joined in 1995. Before founding Benchmark, Mr. Harvey was founder, president and Chief Executive Officer of Approach Software Corp., a server database company. Before founding Approach Software, Mr. Harvey founded Styleware, Inc., a software company. Mr. Harvey received his B.S. degree in engineering from Rice University in 1987. The board of directors determined that Mr. Harvey should serve as a director based on his significant experience investing in and serving on the boards of directors of other technology companies, his management and leadership experience as a former founder and executive of multiple startup technology companies.

Scott Herren

Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Autodesk, Inc.

R. Scott Herren has served as a director since 2016 and currently serves as the chair of our audit committee. Mr. Herren currently serves as the senior vice president and chief financial officer of Autodesk, Inc., a leading provider of cloud-based design and engineering software. Prior to joining Autodesk in November 2014, Mr. Herren was senior vice president of finance at Citrix Systems where he led the company’s finance, accounting, tax, treasury, investor relations, real estate and facilities teams. During his 14 years at Citrix, Mr. Herren held a variety of leadership roles including vice president and managing director for EMEA and vice president and general manager of the company’s virtualization systems group. Before joining Citrix in 2000, Mr. Herren spent 16 years in senior strategy and financial positions at FedEx and IBM.

Mr. Herren holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Columbia University. The board of directors determined that Mr Herren should serve as a director based on his broad experience in operations, international business, accounting, financial management and investor relations at publicly held enterprise software companies.

Michael Johnson

Former CISO and SVP, Capital One; Former CIO, US Department of Energy

Michael Johnson has served as a Director since July 2017, and currently serves as the Chair of the Risk Committee. Mr. Johnson serves as a senior strategic advisor for cybersecurity, enterprise cyber risk management, cloud safeguarding, and information technology management. Previously Mr. Johnson served as Capital One’s Chief Information Security Officer and Senior Vice President, leading and managing information security, cybersecurity operations, and security technology innovation. Prior to joining Capital One, Mr. Johnson served as the Chief Information Officer for the U.S. Department of Energy, and other key cyber-focused executive roles in the U.S. Government at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Department of Homeland Security, and the White House Executive Office of the President. Mr. Johnson holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego. The board of directors determined that Mr. Johnson should serve as a director based on his extensive experience in cybersecurity, cyber risk management, and security technology innovation as well as his leadership roles in industry and the United States government.

Leyla Seka

Formerly EVP Salesforce.com

Leyla Seka spent 11 years at Salesforce where she most recently served as the executive vice president of the Salesforce Mobile platform experience, enabling all customers to unlock the power of Salesforce from anywhere. Prior to her current role, Ms. Seka was executive vice president of the Salesforce AppExchange, where she launched a refreshed AppExchange storefront, a new partner program, and built an entire AppExchange-focused team, resulting in more than 4,000 solutions, installed nearly 6 million times. Ms. Seka was also the executive sponsor of BOLDforce, Salesforce’s organization for expanding and empowering the black community at Salesforce. Before joining Salesforce, Leyla worked in product management and marketing organizations at Primavera Systems (acquired by Oracle), Evolve Software, Vivant and Eutron SPA. Prior to working in technology, Ms. Seka spent two years in Mali, West Africa, as a Peace Corps officer. The board of directors determined that Ms. Seka should serve as a director based on her significant experience across product management, product marketing and business operations.

Leyla holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations and French from the University of California, Davis, and a master’s degree in business administration from the Masagung School of Management at the University of San Francisco. She is active in women in technology and equal-pay issues and was named a “Next-Gen Innovator” by Forbes.

Richard Wallace

Chief Executive Officer, KLA Corporation

Mr. Wallace currently serves as chief executive officer and president and as a member of the board of directors of KLA Corporation, a leading provider of process control and yield management solutions. Mr. Wallace began as an applications engineer at KLA Instruments in 1988, and has held various general management positions throughout his 31-year tenure with the company. Earlier in his career, he held positions with Ultratech Stepper and Cypress Semiconductor. The board of directors determined that Mr. Wallace brings exceptional technology leadership to the board that will further enhance Proofpoint’s ongoing ability to scale its business to drive long-term sustained growth and profitability.
