FedRAMP Authorization for Proofpoint Enterprise Archive Solution

While the industry consistently sees archive deployments outpace on-premises deployments almost 9:1[1], there has been a lag to cloud adoption within the federal government. This is because inefficient and redundant processes make it difficult to incorporate the cloud into Federal IT infrastructure, costing time and money. Fortunately, those days are over.

Today we announced Proofpoint’s inclusion into the FedRAMP Authorized program. The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, or FedRAMP, is a government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services. This is an important distinction as federal agencies move to meet National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) compliance mandates, including the Capstone approach for managing federal records electronically.

We are one of the only archiving service providers to become authorized through this rigorous testing program to date. What this means to Federal customers is that they now have a protocol to speed the assessments and authorizations of certified cloud archive solutions. This increases confidence in security while enabling time, resource and cost savings for government agencies.

Make no mistake, this recognition does not come easy. Working for over a year with the federal government, Proofpoint has demonstrated through several levels of certifications and authorizations that we are committed to providing the most secure data archive in the world and meeting the unique requirements of U.S. federal government, especially as they consider cloud-based solutions. Part of what makes this possible is Proofpoint DoubleBlind™ Key Architecture. Only Proofpoint ensures separation of encryption keys from encrypted data, guaranteeing only the customer has complete control over data access. Additionally, Proofpoint Enterprise Archive features include:

  • Broad content capture beyond the scope of email, including social and enterprise collaboration content
  • Accelerated compliance investigation with focused review and more intelligent and flexible data classification
  • Enhanced e-discovery readiness with swift insights, reduced noise and lower costs

As the archive market continues to customize solutions to specific verticals, we feel strongly that this achievement means we now offer the most seamless and risk averse cloud solution to our Federal customers. In fact, using a FedRAMP authorized solution “saves an estimated 30-40% of government costs, as well as both time and staff required to conduct redundant agency security assessments[2].” The federal government represents some of the most stringent and sophisticated requirements in the world, making it a de-facto standard for setting cloud adoption practices with the utmost due diligence for any organization anywhere.
