Proofpoint Extends Cloud Leadership with Enterprise Archive Spring Release

Spring Release Broadens Legal Preservation Capabilities, Harnesses Cloud with Virtualized Appliance

SUNNYVALE, Calif., – April 22, 2013 – Proofpoint, Inc., (NASDAQ: PFPT), a leading security-as-a-service provider, today announced its new spring release is available. The Enterprise Archive Spring Release enables organizations to leverage the Cloud – while also enhancing their ability to address legal preservation challenges.

Managing "SharePoint Sprawl"
To address preservation challenges of managing information 'in-the-wild', Proofpoint has released a Content Collection module for Microsoft SharePoint®. This module enables legal teams to capture content that resides on Microsoft SharePoint servers and securely add them to legal holds managed within Proofpoint Enterprise Archive, thus addressing the growing problem that "SharePoint sprawl" presents for eDiscovery. The new module utilizes proven technology from Proofpoint's Enterprise Governance product and complements Proofpoint’s existing content collection module for networked file share collections.

Preservation in the Cloud: at Lower Cost, with Less Risk
In addition, the company’s highly respected enterprise archive solution – positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders quadrant of the December 2012 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Information Archiving – has been extended to include the issuance and tracking of legal hold notifications. This new capability enables legal teams to automate what is often a manual, inefficient process – but which also entails a disproportionately large share of risk. This new capability enables the full automation of custodian notification, including generating the hold notice, providing monitoring capability to enable follow-up as well as complete reporting of hold notification status.

According to the Ninth Annual Litigation Trends Survey Report from Fulbright & Jaworski published February 2013, more than 70 percent of organizations currently rely on user-dependent methods for legal hold data collection and preservation. Proofpoint's automated solution helps organizations to reduce the risks associated with user-dependent actions, such as lack of time or training, the opportunity for tampering with evidence, and the challenge of tracking manual tasks. The net result is the ability to create stronger process defensibility.

Enhanced Flexiblity to Leverage the Cloud
For the increasing number of companies with cloud-centric IT strategies, Proofpoint now offers the ability to utilize a virtualized appliance to serve as a trusted gateway to its Cloud-based archiving services. This virtual appliance offers all the features of the original release, including the ability to generate customer- specific keys utilizing Proofpoint's patented DoubleBlind™ Key Architecture, which keeps legal and compliance teams in complete control over access to their data.

"Our Spring Release addresses the difficult challenges companies face as they attempt to leverage the cloud," said Darren Lee, vice president and general manager of archiving and governance. "Content Collection for SharePoint helps to control and preserve information that may be out of control, and legal hold notification helps to automate a process that's typically manual, inefficient and expensive. Additionally, our support for virtualized appliances better addresses the goals of companies that are attempting to reduce their datacenter footprint. Overall, this release shows our focus on helping companies get to the cloud – and enabling them to handle the tough use cases".
