Accreditation FAQ

Accreditation FAQ

Overview

Do you measure up? Proofpoint accreditation is a true test of your knowledge and experience with Proofpoint products. It’s not the easiest challenge to surmount, but when you do, you’ll know that you’ve truly accomplished something. Contact your sales rep to obtain or purchase accreditation exams.

We currently offer the following accreditations:

  • Enterprise Protection/Privacy Accredited Engineer
  • Enterprise Protection Accredited Engineer
  • Enterprise Privacy Accredited Engineer
  • Enterprise Archive Accredited Engineer

Accreditation is required for authorized contacts for Support. New contacts have 90 days to pass the exam.

For questions about accreditation requirements, contact education@proofpoint.com.

Authorized CTS Contacts

Why does Proofpoint require authorized CTS contacts to become accredited in their product?

It’s becoming more common for companies to require a level of product knowledge for support contacts, in fact it’s something that Proofpoint is required to do with some of our vendors. Proper training and accreditation ensures that you can get the most out of your Proofpoint products, and ensures that support interactions can be handled efficiently, focused on higher-level issues, with everyone on the same page. Our accreditation program has been in place for several years, with over 600 accreditations successfully completed.

Training

Do I have to pay for the training?

Web-based training and access to the accreditation exam is provided at no cost to Proofpoint customers.

Expand Collapse

Authorized Contact

I became an authorized contact before the program started; do I have to become accredited?

Authorized contacts that were in place before the program started were grandfathered into the program, as if they had an existing accreditation. The only requirement is that in the future, as we roll out update exams related to new product functionality, that you take and pass those exams to maintain your grandfathered status.

If you’ve never had Proofpoint training though, and are interested in getting it, this may be your opportunity. Just as a new customer now gets some complimentary training registrations, our existing customers can get the same if they want them. Just reach out to us at education@proofpoint.com.

Update Exams

What are these update exams? Is this something I’m going to have to constantly be paying for?

Update exams will cover new changes in the product. We will conduct brief webinars or offer on-line training to introduce the changes, followed by an on-line update exam. These exams will be brief, only covering new or updated product functionality, and will be offered free of charge to existing accreditation holders. We won’t conduct update exams for every tiny change in the product, just when we feel that there has been sufficient change to the product to justify an update exam. Accreditation holders will have 60 days to update their accreditations by completing the update exam.

Add Authorized Contact

We want to add an authorized contact, but he has worked with Proofpoint before. Does he really have to sit through a training class?

Naturally, we recommend training as the most efficient path to the knowledge you need to gain your accreditation, but if you’re confident, you can always go straight to the exam. Training isn’t required, just accreditation.

Expand Collapse

New Contact

We had someone leave, and need to establish a new contact. Would we have to pay for the training or exam for that person?

There is no charge to get training and exam access for a replacement contact.

Expand Collapse

Targeted Attack Protection

I only have Targeted Attack Protection; do I have to be accredited?

Accreditation is required for customers who have the core Protection, Privacy, Archive or Governance products, according to the schedule noted above.  If you have something like Targeted Attack Protection or Secure Share as a stand-alone product, you should become trained on the product, but accreditation is not required. If you’re not sure whether you must be accredited, contact Proofpoint’s Education Services for confirmation.

Expand Collapse

Protection and Archive

My company has both Protection and Archive, but I’m only responsible for Archive. Do I have to become accredited for both?

Accreditation is only required for products you work with, with the understanding that you won’t be logging calls for other products. If something changes and you do become responsible for other products, then accreditation will be required at that time.

Expand Collapse

Not Sure if Accredited

I’m not sure if I’m accredited or not. How can I find out?

Contact Proofpoint Education Services at education@proofpoint.com, and we can verify your accreditations for you. You can also check your accreditations through the LMS, by clicking on the My Learning button at the top of the window, then selecting the Transcript tab. Any accreditations will list a score and a status of Pass.

Expand Collapse

Signing Up

How can I sign up for training? Or for just the exam?

Training accounts can be requested through CTS (select Other - Training in the Component field), or you can reach out to your sales representative or education@proofpoint.com for help. Once you log in with your training account credentials, click on the My Learning button to see courses that you're automatically registered for (under the Learning Plan tab), or view the Training catalog and select whatever course interests you.

Maintaining Accreditation

How do I maintain my accreditation?

As product functionality is added or changed, we’ll release upgrade exams for each accreditation. You will be notified by email as these exams are released, and will be provided with the time frame in which the update exam must be completed.

Expand Collapse

Expired Accreditation

What if I skip an exam and my accreditation expires?

If you let your accreditation expire, then you will be required to pass the full accreditation exam again in order to restore your accreditation.

Expand Collapse

Moving Companies

What if I move to another company, do I have to start from scratch with my accreditation?

Accreditations are tests of the skills and knowledge of an individual, so the accreditation can be carried to your new company. Just inform Education Services of the change, and we’ll update your record.

If you have any other questions about accreditation, please email education@proofpoint.com.
