Threat Research Program Opt-In Terms

Last Update: 2017-04-18

By opting in to the Threat Research Program you hereby give consent to and authorize Proofpoint to copy, retain, and analyze material (including but not limited to files, messages, URLs, and social posts) identified as malicious by one of Proofpoint threat detection technologies. Proofpoint will retain malicious material in perpetuity.

You understand and acknowledge that some non-malicious information may also be captured in connection with the program (for example, if a file is flagged as malicious in error because of legitimate, but suspicious, content). You hereby consent and authorize Proofpoint to copy, view, and analyze such information to the extent necessary for Proofpoint to refine its detection techniques to prevent future false positives.

Once Proofpoint completes its analysis of any non-malicious material that has been captured, Proofpoint will destroy any copies of the information. You understand and acknowledge that Proofpoint employees who analyze material retained by the program may be located in a variety of countries, including the United States. The retained material, individually or in aggregate, may be used to publish threat research and marketing material publicly. Published material will not include any information that identifies the malicious material’s recipient or customer.

By opting into this program you represent to Proofpoint that you are authorized to act on behalf of your employer. Your email address will be recorded for verification and record keeping purposes. You may, at any time, change your mind and opt out of the program. From that point forward, Proofpoint will cease to capture, copy, retain, and use any future malicious material identified by the Proofpoint threat detection technologies.

Proofpoint may modify these Threat Research Program terms (“Terms”) at any time by posting a revised version on the Threat Research Program site and by electronically notifying you (e.g. via email) of the change.  The modified terms will become effective upon posting or, if Proofpoint notifies you by email, as stated in the email message. By continuing to opt into the Threat Research Program after the effective date of such modifications, you agree to be bound by the modified Terms.
