PROOFPOINT + IBM QRadar

Email Threat Visibility in Your IBM QRadar SIEM

Bring Proofpoint threat detections and message logs into the QRadar SIEM your SOC already runs.

Partnership Overview

Make email one more source in your investigations

Proofpoint and IBM QRadar bring email threat intelligence into the central view your SOC already uses. Threat and click events from Proofpoint Core Email Protection and message-level logs flow into QRadar, so analysts can investigate email-borne attacks and trace messages next to every other event source, without switching consoles. Both integrations send Proofpoint data into QRadar, so your team keeps the SIEM workflows it already runs.

Email threats in your SIEM

Core Email Protection sends threat messages and URL click events to QRadar, so analysts can investigate, alert, and report on credential phishing, BEC, and other malware-free threats.

Quick identification of affected users

Delivered and clicked threat events help analysts see which users were affected without leaving QRadar to check a separate console.

Message tracing in QRadar

The Proofpoint Email Security app for QRadar normalizes message and mail logs, so teams trace messages with standard QRadar searches, dashboards, and reports.

SIEM VISIBILITY GAP

Email evidence shouldn't live in a separate console

Human-targeted attacks often begin in email, but the investigation usually continues in the SIEM. Credential phishing and business email compromise are malware-free threats that leave little for endpoint or network tools to catch, so the email-side record is often the evidence analysts need. When that record lives in a separate console, correlation is manual, and analysts must leave QRadar to find out what arrived and who clicked.

EMAIL THREAT VISIBILITY

Search email threats beside every other event source

Core Email Protection detects, blocks, and extracts intelligence from external email attacks, then sends threat and click events to QRadar through the SIEM API. QRadar ingests blocked and delivered messages and blocked and permitted URL clicks to support investigation, alerting, and reporting. The Proofpoint app for QRadar also provides dashboards and reports based on the SIEM API data.

SIEM API Event Feed

The Core Email Protection SIEM API delivers blocked and delivered messages and blocked and permitted URL clicks into QRadar.

Affected User Identification

Delivered and clicked threat events help analysts see which users were affected by credential phishing, BEC, and other malware-free threats.

Search, Alert, Report

SOC teams investigate, alert, and report on email threats in QRadar next to the rest of their event data.

MESSAGE TRACING

Trace any message without leaving QRadar

The Proofpoint Email Security app for QRadar gives SOC and email administrators visibility into email activity and message tracing. The Email Protection Log API streams message logs and mail logs as structured JSON, and the app extracts and normalizes both. Teams then build dashboards, reports, and alerts with standard QRadar searches.

Message and Mail Logs

The Log API streams message logs and mail logs as structured JSON for Proofpoint on Demand deployments.

Normalized in the App

The app extracts and normalizes both log types so the data is ready to use in QRadar.

Standard QRadar Searches

Build dashboards, reports, and alerts with standard QRadar searches for message tracing and investigation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Proofpoint offers two integrations that send data into IBM QRadar. The Core Email Protection SIEM API provides threat messages and URL click events, which QRadar ingests for investigation, alerting, and reporting. The Proofpoint Email Security app for QRadar uses the Email Protection Log API to bring in message and mail logs, normalized for use with standard QRadar searches, dashboards, and reports.

QRadar provides correlation and workflow, but it has no view of what Proofpoint detected or delivered. Proofpoint provides rich email telemetry, but it has no place to join that data with identity, host, and network events. Together, Proofpoint supplies the email evidence and QRadar supplies the investigation.

Email threat data and message logs live in the SIEM your SOC already runs, so email is one more source in the investigation, not a separate one. Analysts can investigate email-borne attacks and trace messages next to every other event source, without switching consoles.

Data flows from Proofpoint to QRadar. The SIEM API sends blocked and delivered threat messages and blocked and permitted URL clicks, and the Log API sends message and mail logs. These are visibility integrations: they don’t return verdicts or trigger actions in Proofpoint.

The SIEM API feed requires Proofpoint Core Email Protection with SIEM API access and an IBM QRadar deployment. The message-tracing app requires Email Protection on Proofpoint on Demand and a Remote Syslog license. The integrations cover email data only and do not include Proofpoint Cloud DLP, Insider Threat Management, or AI Security.
