The Latest in Phishing: December 5, 2014
Tis the season for phishing attacks? Unfortunately, yes. Here are some of the most recent attacks from the wild.
- Some call it "the most advanced phishing scheme yet". The cyber criminals in this scam employed Wall Street-esque language to infect C-level executives at Fortune 500 companies, then used those email accounts in an attempt to infect other employees with Microsoft Office documents.
- Retailers are a target again, as a phishing campaign spoofing emails from Home Depot and Costco has been making the rounds. Additionally, shoppers were targeted on Cyber Monday and lured to fake Amazon and Walmart websites. Remember — always check the URL before you click!
- Own a domain? Cyber criminals are targeting GoDaddy accounts with a claim that the WHOIS information needs to be updated due to ICANN mandates.
And while not exactly a specific phishing attack, phishing is on the rise in countries where English isn't the dominant language, according to Kaspersky Lab.
