United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

BUSINESS CHALLENGE
Employees at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were being inundated with spam, receiving hundreds of unsolicited emails each day. As a result the agency began a search for a messaging security solution that would offer unrivalled accuracy in detecting spam and superior customer support, all at an optimal cost.

PROOFPOINT SOLUTION
USAID deployed the Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway, an appliance that stops unsolicited emails before they enter the network. The Proofpoint Spam Detection™ module prevents spam risk and phishing attacks from reaching users, while the Proofpoint Virus Protection™ module protects users from virus attacks, worms and other forms of malicious code.

USAID NEEDED TO STOP UNWANTED EMAIL The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is an independent federal agency that administers economic and humanitarian assistance programs to foreign countries. USAID provides assistance in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and the Near East, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe and Eurasia. USAID has more than 8,500 employees across 90 locations around the world.

Many of USAID's users were receiving a large volume of unsolicited in their inboxes each day—with many users receiving hundreds of spam messages per week. USAID began a search for a new way to cleanse its inboxes of spam by delivering a far higher level of accuracy, easier administration, better reporting, superior customer support and lower cost.

PROOFPOINT PROVIDED A COMPLETE ANTI-SPAM SOLUTION
USAID evaluated a handful of messaging security solutions and narrowed its choice down to Proofpoint and MailFrontier. USAID eventually selected Proofpoint, because it easily met all of the agency's criteria for a messaging security solution.

USAID is using the Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway, an appliance that stops spam and viruses before they enter the network. Proofpoint's MLX™ machine learning technology analyzes more than 200,000 attributes in every email message in order to accurately identify spam with the industry's highest accuracy rate.

PROOFPOINT STOPS CLASSIFIED EMAIL FROM ENTERING NETWORK
In addition to using Proofpoint to stop spam and viruses from reaching users, USAID is using Proofpoint in a unique way to prevent classifi ed email from entering the network.
